Mr. Tim Cox joined CareFirst in May 2018 and is responsible for home based services, skilled nursing facilities, hospice and palliative care services, sleep management program and cardiac rehabilitation.

Prior to CareFirst, Mr. Cox joined The Washington Home and Community Hospices in February 2011. Before becoming the CEO, Mr. Cox was employed at the Armed Forces Retirement Home as the Chief Operating Officer from September 2002 to January 2011. Prior to this position, Mr. Cox was the Senior Vice President, Northeast Region, for Sunrise Assisted Living, Inc., an assisted living company based out of Tysons Corner, Virginia. He supervised the operations of 40 homes in 4 states. In various roles during his 6 years at Sunrise, he assisted the company in its expansive growth from 23 homes to over 200 homes. He coordinated regulatory and licensure matters; supervised the transformation of national support from a fragmented approach of seven independent departments into one effective field support team; served on three state committees to draft assisted living legislation and regulations; and advocated for the elderly residents he and his teams served.

Mr. Cox spent ll years working with 2 non-profit agencies. First, he worked for Holy Family Manor, a long-term care organization operated by the Diocese of Allentown. He helped them grow from 1 nursing home to 14 different facilities that included: HUD housing for the elderly, assisted living homes, adult day care facilities and a certified Medicare/Medicaid home care agency. He then joined Philadelphia Presbytery Homes, Inc., a Continuing Care Retirement Community based in Philadelphia, PA, where he was promoted to Vice President of Administration and General Counsel.

Mr. Cox has served as the chair of the Legal and Housing Committees of the Pennsylvania nonprofit trade association and has spoken regionally and nationally on relevant topics in long-term care. He also served on the Governance Committee of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

He volunteers as the Chair of the Board for Cultural Tourism DC that sponsors events such as Passport DC, Walkingtown, PorchFest and Around the World Embassy Tours to encourage neighbors and visitors to explore DC neighborhoods that are rich with history and international flair.

Mr. Cox holds a BA from Bucknell University and a JD from Widener University. He resides with his husband, Craig Cobine, in Washington, DC.
