The Governor’s Appointments Office is accepting applications from physicians with experience managing long-term care who are interested in serving on the State Advisory Council on Quality Care at the End of Life.  The Council meets 2-4 times per year, which meetings are held on weekday mornings chosen by the Council’s members.   The Council’s website is http://www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov/Pages/HealthPolicy/sac.aspx

Under Maryland law, members of the Council:

(1)   Monitor trends in the provision of care to Marylanders with life–limiting illnesses;

(2)   Study the impact of State statutes, regulations, policies, and other aspects of public policy on the provision of care at the end of life;

(3)   Provide recommendations to the Office of the Attorney General, the Department, the Department of Aging, and other agencies of State government with respect to their activities affecting the provision of care at the end of life;

(4)   Advise the General Assembly on legislative proposals affecting the provision of care at the end of life;

(5)   Participate in or otherwise promote public and professional educational efforts concerning care at the end of life; and

(6)   Carry out other duties as may be requested by the Governor or the General Assembly.

The Council consists of a diverse group of health care providers, consumers, attorneys, insurers, and representatives from advocacy groups and religious organizations, all of whom are devoted to improving the care given to patients and their families at the end of life.  The Council’s members also include State representatives from the Maryland General Assembly, the Department of Disabilities, the Maryland Department of Health, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Department of Aging.

Interested applicants should submit a formal application via the Governor’s Appointments Office website (here) by February 15, 2019.
